Dining

Herefordshire is a county of rolling hills, rambling river valleys and lush green grass.

For generations farming has been the main “industry” of the county and we are lucky enough to be able to obtain so much fresh local produce and we strive to source most of ingredients within a thirty mile radius of Ross on Wye. Our beef, lamb, fowl and pork are sourced through two of the best commercial butchers, Shaun Greves-Jones of Herefordshire Meats in Madley and Douglas Willis of Cwmbran as well as our two Ross-on-Wye butchers, Cornwall Family Butchers in Broad Street  and Andy Callwood in the High Street.  Some of our Beef is provided from Treworgan Farm which is about 2 miles away as the crow flies.

Other sources for meats, game, fish, salads, dairy products and vegetables include Vin Sullivan of Abergavenny who are distributors for several local primary producers including the Severn & Wye Valley Smokery from Westbury-on-Severn and Neal’s Yard Creamery from Dorstone. Trealy Farm at Mitchel Troy produce wonderful charcuterie at their state of the art premises overlooking the Usk Valley.

Local farmers like Anthony and Christine Snell near Ross on Wye at Pencoyd (voted Fruit Grower of the Year 2008) and Eric Drummond at the Homme Farm just the other side of the river supply our raspberries and strawberries and John Chinn at Cobrey Farm grows wonderful asparagus.

During the season Sarah Snell’s Treberva Farm Shop in Much Birch (well worth a visit) supplies soft fruit and veg and there is a host of people with small holdings and gardens from Ross on Wye who supply us with fruit, veg and herbs as well as game from local shoots in season.  Here at “The Court” we have a small vegetable patch and the garden is full of herbs to supply the kitchen.

The annual “Flavours of Herefordshire” awards, now in its thirteenth year, recognizes quality and excellence in the food and drink that is served and produced in Herefordshire and nearby. Glewstone Court has been a finalist every year- this year for Breakfast of the Year and Restaurant of the Year! Our ethos is to provide you with local produce, lovingly prepared, cooked with passion and beautifully presented.

We are very aware of the current situation as regards the credit crunch and how it affects everyone; to support our local suppliers and give our customers a treat at great prices we are offering a `Hearty Herefordshire` Lunch menu which will be served Monday- Saturday from noon, last orders 1.45. This menu showcases traditional Herefordshire and other great local produce. The price is £12.95 for two courses – from a choice of three.
